Kara and David held their engagement session at Riverside Park in La Crosse Wisconsin. La Crosse is the town where the two met, where they currently work, and where they now live. Therefore, they wanted to incorporate “everything La Crosse” into their portraits. The blue bridge set over the Mississippi River was the perfect spot to gain an iconic portrait representing the city. Riverside Park itself also offered a beautiful and scenic sunset backdrop for their photos.
I also want to make special note of the couple’s outfits. Because of the fact that details can get lost in the shadows, I normally shy away from recommending black attire in a session. However, these two did black engagement session attire perfectly. The pattern on Kara’s dress helped her “jump off” the background. Because David’s polo shirt was short sleeved, it allowed for his body to not get lost in the portrait. It was also the perfect option to pair it with Kara’s dress since she had a dominating pattern. As a contrast to the formal dress, David’s jeans outfit was more casual.
The session was beautiful overall. However, because the couple has been dealing with Covid-19 as they plan their wedding, it only made sense to get at least one picture of the two of them wearing masks!
