Are you dreaming of a fall engagement session? A fall engagement session to match the ambiance of your wedding planned for the following fall season? Courtney and Colin wanted just that as they prepared for their engagement session with me. They did a great job with everything from their outfits to props. Also, the location we landed on fit what they had envisioned perfectly. Here’s a closer look at what we put into Courtney and Colin’s engagement session, including Colin’s service within the military:
Engagement Session at Grandad Bluff in La Crosse, WI
I had a blast discovering new-to-me areas with Courtney and Colin to host their engagement session at Grandad Bluff. I had been here before, as it is a staple sightseeing destination when visiting La Crosse. However, we decided to take a few paths that seemed a little less traveled. This allowed us to stumble upon a part of the bluff overlooking the city. It was a breathtaking spot! In addition to the fantastic views, Grandad Bluff’s brick building with flag flying was the perfect backdrop for their military aspect.
Incorporating the Military into the Engagement Session
The pair wanted to incorporate the military into their engagement session, as Colin was currently enlisted. I think they did well preparing for their session by being very intentional with the patterns in their outfits. Of course, Colin was in full camo with his uniform, and we had to capture that, but by handing the coat over to Courtney, who had chosen a simple black dress to pair, we could spread that pattern around the frame.
Incorporating a Dog into the Engagement Session
In addition to adding the military aspect to their engagement session, they brought their dog along for a couple of photo opportunities. They envisioned using the photo of the three of them to save the dates, so Courtney brought a prop for the session, which was a sign that read, “My humans are getting married”; let’s say that their puppy stole the show in the end!
What the Couple Did Right When Choosing Their Outfits for the Engagement Session
Jake wore a patterned shirt for their second outfit but opted to top it with a solid vest that lightened the pattern load within their photos. In addition to utilizing patterns best, they did a great job choosing the colorways within their clothing, matching what they envisioned for their wedding day. There is a good chance that your engagement photos will become part of your wedding decor, so having the clothing within those photos coincide with your wedding day color scheme is a great option when deciding upon session outfits.
They were also blessed with perfect weather for a fall engagement session in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and I took full advantage of the beautiful sunset over the ridge. I am VERY much looking forward to this couple’s wedding (it is at one of my all-time favorite venues). Congrats to Courtney and Colin!
